I never know where to even start when talking about this game. I wholeheartedly mean that the events of this game comepletely changed the course of 17 year old me's life. The story is captivating and charaters complex. You start off feeling no attachment to the androids around you, similar to the character you play as, and then eventually grow a burning compassion for everyone you meet until eventually every struggle makes you think of the impact this could have on your friends, you worry that every engagement could be the end for them or even yourself, and every death rends your very being. The soundtrack of the game is wonderfully atmospheric and puts you in the moment like few other games can. Hearing "memories of dust" makes you feel the warm, dry winds through your hair, grains of sand against your skin, and this feeling of anticipating discovering something breathtaking and ancient while you wander a massive desert. "Amusement park" presents to you a sense of mystery and piques your curiosity as costumed enemies welcome you, guns and tanks loaded with baloons and confetti.Their non-hostility is unnerving and you almost itch to fight, as it's all you've done up to this point. One of my other favorites, "Fortress of lies", puts you at peace with it's droning ambience, angelic vocals, and a pleasant ringing of bells as you briefly escape a world that is has already fell apart. I had the pleasure of attending the Nier orchestra concert live in 2024, and it was undoubtedly one of the best preformances I will ever hear. Please, if you love yourself and have media comprehension skills, play Nier automata.
